Maeve Staunton capped her high school soccer career at Northwest Catholic with a whirlwind of accolades, earning one of the sport’s most prestigious honors.

On Wednesday Dec. 10, Staunton was named a 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-American – one of only eight players in Connecticut and fewer than 90 nationwide to receive the distinction (across public, private, and prep schools).

Those who know Staunton – teammates, friends, parents, and coaches – describe her as hardworking, passionate, and remarkably humble. She is widely regarded as one of the most technically skilled players in the state, and pairs that with being an amazing teammate.

Staunton’s relentless consistency and technical ability have set her apart and the All-American honor proves this. Over four years, she maintained a high level of play, reliably performing in every match. Even in difficult games, Staunton created opportunities, broke down defenses, drew multiple defenders, and found ways to score.

During her high school career, Staunton earned four All-CCC selections, three All-State nods, two All-New England honors, and now, All-American status. This year, she was also named GametimeCT’s Player of the Year, identifying her as the top girl’s soccer player in Connecticut.

Staunton finished the 2025 season with 21 goals and 17 assists, bringing her four-year totals to 114 career points: 62 goals and 52 assists. Her senior class reached the State Tournament finals three times (2022, 2024, 2025) and the CCC finals in 2024.

Northwest Catholic’s head coach Steve Carnes reflected on Staunton’s evolution as both a player and a leader: “I have been fortunate to coach Maeve since eighth grade. From the beginning, her technical ability distinguished her from her peers. Over the years, she has grown as a leader, displaying exceptional resilience and consistently thriving in high-pressure moments. Maeve’s outstanding performance in this year’s state tournament is a testament to her determination and commitment to her team. As a two-year captain, she became the team’s clear leader, always genuine and impactful in her words and follow-through.”

Staunton committed to the University of Connecticut before her junior year and will no doubt be a key addition to their team next season. Her high school sports career, however, isn’t over yet. The Northwest Catholic girls basketball team, with three consecutive CIAC state championships (Classes S, MM, and L), aims to contend for a fourth, this time in the newly formed Division 1.
