West Hartford Police said a female pedestrian was injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Prospect Avenue near the Kane Street Plaza.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred at roughly 7:38 p.m. Police said the driver of the vehicle who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene.

First responders provided medical assistance at the scene, police said, before the pedestrian was transported to an area hospital for what police said appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Late Wednesday night Prospect Avenue remained closed to traffic in both directions between Park Road and Kane Street while the West Hartford Police Department Traffic Division continued their investigation of the incident, and motorists were urged to seek alternate routes.

Police ask that anyone with information about the incident contact the West Hartford Police Department at 860-523-5203, or via the anonymous tip line at 860-570-8969 or email [email protected].

After a spate of traffic incidents in 2022 that resulted in six motor vehicle-related fatalities – five of which occurred in an eight-day period in December – town leaders established a task force and launched the Vision Zero initiative, designed to increase road safety. The task force began meeting in February and will hold its next meeting on April 17. More details about Vision Zero can be found on the town’s website.
