The Rotary Club of West Hartford is thrilled to announce the return of its annual book drive benefiting disadvantaged students in the Greater Hartford area.
Now in its 11th year, this year’s drive combines online monetary donations and the reintroduction of physical book donations, highlighted by an exciting new charity event: “Bowling for Books.” The event will take place on Dec. 15, 2024, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Lessard Lanes in Plainville, CT.
Adding to the excitement, local children’s author Daniel Howell will make a special appearance with his “Buzz Buggy.” Known for his popular book “Bee 4 Goodnight,” Howell will be on-site signing copies of his book and meeting families, creating a fun and memorable experience for all attendees.
This year’s book drive brings back physical book donations at designated drop-off locations, including Aiken Elementary School, King Philip Middle School, and the Bowling for Books event itself. Community members are encouraged to support the initiative by donating books, making online monetary donations, participating in the bowling event, or sponsoring a bowler. All funds and books collected will directly benefit students who need access to essential reading materials.
In partnership with The Miale Team at Keller Williams Realty, Memento Works, Lessard Lanes, King Philip Middle School, and Aiken Elementary School, the West Hartford Rotary invites individuals and families of all ages and skill levels to join the event. Participants are encouraged to register as a team and engage friends and family to sponsor their efforts, helping to maximize the drive’s impact.
“We are thrilled to bring the book drive back for its 11th year!” says Bennett Forrest, Rotarian and event chair. “What’s even more exciting is that we are reintroducing an in-person element by hosting the Bowling for Books event. Over the years, we’ve donated over 10,000 books and raised more than $20,000, and we are looking forward to taking the drive to the next level.”
This family-friendly event unites the community in a fun atmosphere, with the added bonus of meeting a local author, while promoting literacy and supporting local students. Don’t miss this opportunity to bowl, donate, or cheer on bowlers for a great cause!
