Smith STEM School held its first ever Community Paint Night on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.
In attendance were nearly 40 families from students in grades 2-5 who participated in a guided painting led by Smith’s art teacher, Arden Warinsky.
Dressed as Bob Ross, Warinsky led the group through a winter landscape painting in a step-by-step fashion. Each family received a canvas for the parent/guardian and one for the student attending the event. All participants got to take their artistic creations home with them at the end of the painting session.
The step-by-step instruction helped all participants be successful no matter their painting or artistic experience. Participants were encouraged to put their own artistic twist on the painting and add their own elements to make each painting unique.
All materials needed for the paint night were made possible through a Family Engagement Grant for Title I schools. Over 15 Smith faculty members helped set up, assisted families during the event, and helped clean up at the end of the evening which made for a fantastic team effort. Smith STEM hopes to make this a yearly event.
