The Connecticut Department of Transportation has issued an advisory about plans for milling and resurfacing a 1.33-mile segment of New Britain Avenue (State Route 529) in West Hartford and Hartford.

The work, which was scheduled to begin on Sunday, July 21 but had not yet commenced as of Tuesday afternoon, will take place along New Britain Avenue from Newington Road (Route 173) in West Hartford east to Newington Avenue (where Avery Heights is located) in Hartford.

Rafferty Fine Grading is the contractor that will be doing the milling work, which should take roughly three days and will be performed at night, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“In conjunction with the milling, the roadway will be restriped as one lane in each direction with a center two-way left-turn lane between the intersections of South [Street] in West Hartford and Newington Avenue in Hartford in an effort to enhance safety and to provide increased shoulder widths for bicyclists,” CTDOT said in the announcement, which noted that the revised lane use will be evaluated prior to resurfacing.

The resurfacing, which will be done by Tilcon, is scheduled to being on Wednesday, Aug, 7, and be completed by Monday, Aug. 12, and will also take place during the evening and overnight hours.

Lane closures are expected for both phases of the road work and traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be posted, CTDOT said.

Weather or other conditions may result in revision to the schedule, the CTDOT announcement said.

Feedback on the revised lane use can be directed to [email protected].
