Connecticut State Police on Friday identified the individual killed Tuesday, Dec. 9 in an incident on I-84 within West Hartford’s town limits as Haneef McKnight, 28, of Philadelphia, PA.

Connecticut State Police said that troopers from Troop H responded to what appeared to be a road rage incident at approximately 3:16 p.m. Tuesday. Their preliminary investigation revealed two vehicles were involved – a 2023 Freightliner tractor towing a 2007 Great Dane trailer that was traveling in the right lane, and a 2024 Freightliner box truck that was traveling in the center lane of the highway.

Traffic in the area was congested, State Police said, when “one of the operators exited their vehicle, ran across the highway, climbed onto the box truck, and a disturbance ensued.”

Police said one of the “involved individuals was run over by one of the involved vehicles” in the midst of the disturbance, and that person has now been identified as McKnight.

No further information was released, and State Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing. They are asking that anyone who may have witnessed this fatal incident – or who may have cellphone and/or dashcam footage of the incident – to please contact CSP Detective Timothy Nohelty at 860-706-5632 or [email protected].
