Students from West Hartford’s Hall High School competed against Mount Greylock Regional School (Williamstown, MA) on Saturday, in a battle of intelligence and quick thinking that takes place annually among high schools in western New England.

The Hall team of juniors Jake Zweifler, Joey Kornman, Brennan George, and senior Dylan Landau participated in “As Schools Match Wits,” filming an episode at Westfield State University that will air on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2017, on WGBY. The students are coached by Latin teacher Jim Crabb and math teacher Christina Hunter.

Categories include arts and entertainment, literature, math and science, general knowledge (including sports), social studies (including civics and geography, and world events (history as well as current events).

“As Schools Match Wits,” which premiered in 1961, is the nation’s oldest high school quiz show.

While the scores can’t be announced in advance because it would ruin the suspense, Hunter said, “With our score we have a good shot at making it to the finals again this year.” The top eight scoring teams move on to the finals, she said.
