Thomas Voices Concerns Over Funding Cut To Early Voting, Other Critical Functions Of SOTS

In West Hartford, more than 17,000 used the opportunity to vote early during last November’s election, but the governor’s proposed budget does not include funds for early voting, printing statutorily required election materials, and funds for setting up additional early voting locations and connecting them to the state’s voting network, according to the Secretary of the State.

Cuts to the Secretary of the State’s office in Gov. Ned Lamont’s proposed 2026-27 budget will make it difficult to carry out critical functions of the office and could impact early voting, the head of the office said last week.
Lamont’s $55.2 billion biennial budget proposal includes just under $12.4 million annually for the Secretary of the State (SOTS), which is about $2 million less than the $14.4 million that Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas says she requested.
