Town Encouraging New PassportParking Users with One Hour Free Parking
Audio By Carbonatix
One hour of free parking in metered areas on West Hartford streets and certain lots will be free to new users who sign up for the PassportParking mobile app.
Submitted by the Town of West Hartford, Municipal Parking Division
If you were ever curious about using an app to pay for parking, the Town of West Hartford has a one-hour free coupon for you to give it a try. From Nov. 2 through Nov. 30, new users who sign-up for the PassportParking app can use discount code 860860 for one hour of free parking in West Hartford Center.
PassportParking provides visitors with the ultimate convenience by performing the transaction from their mobile devices instead of visiting the kiosk. The app sends an alert when the parking session is about to expire and additional time can be added literally from anywhere you are.
The first step is to setup an account with PassportParking. There are three ways to do this:
- Pay by App: Download the free PassportParking app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android)
- Pay by Web: Go online to https://ppprk.com/park
- Pay by Phone: Call 860-956-5990 if you don’t have a smartphone.
Enter a credit card number that will be used for your parking transactions. Credit card information is encrypted when you sign up and is never entered or displayed during a transaction. PassportParking will accept MasterCard and Visa, both debit and credit cards.
Second, initiate a parking transaction by entering the zone number. Zone 860, just like our area code, is for all on-street metered spaces in West Hartford Center/Blue Back Square, the Arapahoe lot and Raymond Road lot adjacent to REI. Zone 475 (the other area code) is used for the municipal lots on Farmington Avenue and LaSalle Road. If you forget, the zones are posted at each kiosk.
Third, enter your license plate number and select the amount of time you would like to park.
The PassportParking mobile payment rate is $1.50/hour. There is a 25 cent convenience fee for each parking session; no additional fee required to add time to your parking session. When you receive the alert that your parking session will soon expire, you can enter more time from any location you are at: a restaurant, the movie theater, or doctor’s office.
Lastly, get your first parking session for free by entering the discount code: 860860. (This universal discount code is available for a limited time (Nov. 2-30, 2015) and can only be used one time with your first PassportParking mobile parking session in WestHartford Center.)
PassportParking also keeps a history of your parking receipts in a nice, neat, orderly fashion. You also have the option of receiving receipts by email or you can simply print directly from your account.
Try it, we think you’ll love it!
We parked in the Toy Chest lot the other day, and I use the Passport app all the time.
Problem is, the only place that you’re told it is zone 475 is on the kiosk, which you don’t have to visit if you’re using the app.
There should be a big sign as you drive in, “THIS IS PASSPORT ZONE 475.”
Classic example of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing.
That’s an excellent point, Mike!
Thank you Mr. Margolis for your comment. We will look to add more signs for zone definition in Farmington Lot.
In the mean time, zone definitions are posted on the Town’s parking webpage at several locations.
Once again, we appreciate your input.
[…] On Saturday afternoon, I happened upon several women standing on the sidewalk on Farmington Avenue who were visibly upset that they needed to “feed the parking meter” and thought they had to walk back to the area where they had parked the car. I explained to them that they could use any kiosk in the Center to add extra time, but also could download the PassportParking app and pay for parking from a smartphone, and even get the first hour for free since they would be new app users. They were very grateful for that information. Click here for the details. […]
This one hour free promo is nice, but residents of West Hartford should pay at a lower preferred parking rate, in recognition of their significant and growing property tax contributions to the towns coffers.
