With the dissolution of Windsor Land Trust (WLT) this month, Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy (TRLC) will be continuing conservation efforts in Windsor. TRLC was formed in April 2023 by the merger of West Hartford, East Granby and Wintonbury (Bloomfield) Land Trusts. All were nonprofits led by volunteers, sharing a common goal of conserving the natural environment.

Windsor Land Trust becoming a part of TRLC expands Windsor’s resources and scope as part of a larger organization capable of regional land conservation and protection for future generations. Windsor Land Trust Trustee, Jim Kandik, has joined the TRLC Board of Directors to carry WLT’s voice into the expanded organization.

Operating since 2005, the Windsor Land Trust advocated for a vision of the Windsor community that values open space, balanced development and protection of natural resources. The leaders of WLT, in consultation with their members, considered how to best continue these efforts and how to connect them with regional river, habitat, and conservation activities extending beyond Windsor’s borders.

After careful consideration, Windsor Land Trust’s Board of Trustees concluded that the best path for achieving these goals was joining the Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy. Consequently, WLT has been dissolved as an organization and its remaining funds transferred to TRLC. The Trustees encourage members to continue conservation work in Windsor as part of the regional land trust, working with partners from our neighboring towns to promote conservation efforts that benefit us all.
