A 75-year-old West Hartford man sustained serious injuries Saturday evening after losing control of his car on a slippery, snow-covered road and colliding with a car headed in the opposite direction, police said.
According to police Theodoro Buitrago was driving a 1998 Volvo S70 south on Bloomfield Avenue just south of Sunny Reach Drive when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the yellow line, and collided with a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta that was headed northbound.
Buitrago was extricated from his car by the West Hartford Fire Department. He was treated at the scene and transported to St. Francis Hospital with serious injuries but according to police was in stable condition late Saturday night.
Joslyn Campbell, 56, of Windsor, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and also transported to St. Francis Hospital.
The driver’s side of Buitrago’s car collided with the front of the Volkswagen. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and the roof of the Volvo had to be removed by the fire department for the extrication.
The West Hartford Police Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the accident. It was snowing at the time of the accident and the road was reportedly slippery, police said.
