UConn Health Partners Building Struck by Prison Van

West Hartford Police and Fire departments responded to the Kane Street accident Monday morning.

The UConn Health Partners facility at 65 Kane St. in West Hartford was temporarily evacuated Monday morning after a Department of Corrections van struck and damaged a large swath of the building above the parking area.
According to West Hartford Police, the van, which was transporting a prisoner to an outpatient medical appointment, struck the ceiling along “almost the entire length of the roadway under the building.” In addition to the ceiling, the façade of the building and a water pipe were damaged.
The incident occurred at 10:12 a.m.
According to the police report, the clearance height was not posted at the entrance to the parking area.
Police and fire officials initially evacuated the building to determine its structural integrity. After the building was deemed safe, everyone was allowed back in, police said.
The roof of the van sustained minor damage, police said.
There were no injuries reported and police said that no charges were filed.
