University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Director of Athletics Amanda Devitt was named the 2022-23 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Executive of the Year, it was announced by the conference front office Wednesday. Devitt becomes the first-ever recipient from USJ to receive the accolade from the GNAC.
The award is part of the GNAC’s 2022-23 conference administrative awards, which recognizes administrators in the following categories: Executive of the Year, Athletic Communications Staff of the Year, and Athletic Training Staff of the Year. The awards are presented annually to league administrators, who based on a vote of their peers, excelled in their field throughout the academic year.
“This is a collective honor that calls attention to the remarkable achievements of our student-athletes as well as the incredible guidance our staff and coaches demonstrate daily,” said Devitt. “I am very grateful for the talented professionals in our department and on our campus. I am especially thankful for President Free’s unwavering support of our student-athletes.”
The Blue Jays had a historic year under the direction of Devitt in 2022-23. The department won its third GNAC title in Devitt’s first four years at the helm of the athletic department, as men’s soccer took home the 2022 GNAC crown. Also, the Blue Jays received the first GNAC Commissioner’s Cup title in school history, as six varsity men’s programs combined to post a memorable 2022-23 campaign. In addition, USJ was selected to serve as a host site for the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament First Round and Second Round, becoming the first school in conference history to serve as a host a site in men’s basketball.
The university also saw historic changes under the helm of Devitt this past year, as the USJ Softball Field completed its renovation to a fully turfed complex. In addition, the construction of a new artificial turf baseball field on campus was approved and started ahead of the USJ baseball team’s inaugural varsity season coming in the 2023-24 academic year.
