Volunteers are needed for the Memorial Day flag planting scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Each year, West Hartford takes great pride in celebrating Memorial Day by remembering our veterans with a flag planting event and ceremony.

There are more than 1,200 military graves in Fairview Cemetery, and volunteers from the community are asked to assist the American Legion by placing flags to honor their service to the United States.

The flag placement will be held on Saturday, May 21 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery on Pleasant Street. Volunteers must check-in at the registration tent at the entrance of the cemetery.

Please bring a screwdriver or another tool to aid in placing the flags into the ground.

Flag-placement is a great educational and community service opportunity for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts as well as young and old alike. All are welcome and there is no need to RSVP.

Anyone who has a relative or friend buried at Fairview whose grave is not properly identified as that of a veteran should contact the cemetery office at 860-561-8136 so that a flag can be placed there.
