Watkinson School Girls Basketball Wins Kingswood Oxford Invitational

The Watkinson School girls varsity team recently took home the title in the West Hartford tournament.

Watkinson School’s girls varsity basketball team, currently undefeated with a 7-0 record on their season, won the prestigious Kingswood Oxford Invitational Tournament for the first time in Watkinson’s history.
With a roster of 11 athletes coming from six Connecticut towns (see breakdown below) and coached by first-year coach Amanda Morales of West Hartford, the Lady Rams beat a highly competitive team from Lawrenceville School in New Jersey in the semi-final game with a final score of 58-55. They went on to dominate the well-coached Kingswood-Oxford team in the championship game with a final score of 81-71.
Tournament honors go to co-captain Alexsia Rose ’20 of Bloomfield, who was named tournament MVP, and Shamarla King ’20 of Hartford who had a career high 31 points in the championship game and was named to the all-tournament team.
Also, co-captain Michaela Boyle ’17 scored her 1,000th point in the tourney’s first round game.

Watkinson School, a co-educational day school for grades 6-PG, was founded in 1881 and is Hartford’s oldest independent school. Watkinson’s next open house for prospective students is Jan. 20 at 9 a.m.
