At Celebrate! West Hartford, the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee will start accepting donations of non-perishable food items and diapers of all sizes for the West Hartford Food Pantry. The effort will start at the weekend event of Celebrate! and continue through the third Thursday of the month, June 21, at the monthly WHDTC meeting at Town Hall.

“We want people to see West Hartford Democrats as more than a political party – we are a group of people, a family, who work to find solutions for our community. Our diverse family and elected Democratic officials are committed to working hard for all of West Hartford’s residents. We feel that supporting the West Hartford Food Pantry is a way to support our neighbors,” said WHDTC Chair Jon Slifka.

The West Hartford Democratic Town Committee will be accepting donations at their Celebrate! booth this coming Sunday, June 10. “We are encouraging people to send this message to their friends, family, and more. The need exists throughout the year and we want to raise awareness that the West Hartford Food Pantry offers access to nutritious food and resources to West Hartford residents,” said John Bailey, WHDTC Communications chair.

More than 800 households receive food from the West Hartford Food Pantry each year. In 2016, the Pantry distributed over 6,000 bags of food to residents in need. “The need in our community continues to grow. Now, more than ever, the Food Pantry needs the help of the community in order to continue to assist residents struggling to put food on their tables,” the West Hartford Food Pantry’s website states.

The West Hartford Democratic Town Committee is the official organization of the Connecticut State Democratic Party in the town of West Hartford. With nine districts in town and hundreds of active members, the WHDTC is a leader within the state of Connecticut in the Democratic Party. They meet every third Thursday at the West Hartford Town Hall and more information can be found on their website Whdemocrats.org or on their Facebook Page. They are always welcoming more residents to join their family and build a better community.
