This holiday season, West Hartford faith communities are joining forces to offer comfort and support to the entire community. While the season is often associated with joy and celebration, it can also be a time of heaviness, worry, and grief for many. The Interfaith Longest Night Service will feature words and music of comfort, moments of silence, and opportunities for prayer.
The event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford. A warm reception will follow the service, providing time for conversation and connection.

Rev. Julie Emery, senior pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, shared the inspiration behind the service: “We recognize that many people in our community, both those who are and are not connected to a faith community, feel anxiety, worry, grief, and sorrow. At this time of year when so much of the world is focused on festivity, these feelings can become more acute. The clergy of West Hartford faith communities are coming together to offer comfort to those who are suffering, and to let you know that you are not alone. Our hope is that this evening will help shine light into some very dark, long winter nights.”
This meaningful service is an opportunity to come together for an evening of solace, reflection, and mutual understanding. The participating faith communities include:
- Beth El Temple
- First Baptist Church, West Hartford
- First Church of West Hartford
- Quaker Hartford Meeting House
- Universalist Church of West Hartford
- Westminster Presbyterian Church
The Interfaith Longest Night Service is open to everyone, regardless of religious background. For those unable to attend in person, the service will also be streamed online, with the link to join available on Westminster’s website at www.westpresby.org. Westminster Presbyterian Church is easily accessible by bus, and ample free parking is available.
