Beginning in March, the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office will begin notifying property and business owners whose buildings are due for a required fire safety inspection under Connecticut General Statute 29-305.

Fire safety inspections help ensure that buildings are being used safely and in compliance with the Connecticut State Fire Safety and Prevention Codes. During an inspection, Fire Marshal personnel verify that life safety systems such as fire alarms and sprinkler systems are properly maintained and that smoke alarms are installed in required locations.

Fire safety inspections are required for most buildings, with the exception of one- and two- family homes, and are prioritized based on potential life safety risks. Residential and assembly occupancies are inspected annually, while most businesses are required to be inspected once every three years. If violations are identified, property owners are given 30 days to correct them.

The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office is committed to working collaboratively with property owners to help ensure safe places for residents and visitors to live, work, and gather. To schedule a fire safety inspection or for more information, please contact the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office at 860-561-8320.
