A blaze was contained to a second floor bedroom of a single-family home at 60 High Farms Road, and the West Hartford Fire Department said there were no injuries resulting from the Friday morning incident.
Deputy Chief John Sokolowski said in an email that a report of smoke from the roof of the home was received at approximately 10:20 a.m., and when units arrived smoke could be seen coming from the ridge and gable end vents.
Neighbors at the scene told firefighters that the residents were not home, but expressed concern that a dog might be in the house.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which was in a second floor bedroom, and other units searched the house. Animal Control also reported to the scene, According to Sokolowski, the dog had already safely escaped from the house by the time the fire department arrived.
Sokolowski said the home was overhauled and ventilated, and confirmed that the fire did not extend beyond the original room, but the rest of the house did have smoke damage.
The house is not currently habitable, and according to the Red Cross, four individuals, two adults and two children, are being assisted. The The Red Cross provides those impacted by a fire with a recovery envelope that contains helpful information, including tips on cleanup, notification of important contacts, dealing with damaged items, and more. They also provide “comfort kits” with personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies, and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.
The fire is now under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
“We wish the affected family the best during this time,” the fire department said in a Facebook post about the incident.
