The West Hartford Fire Department arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving a call Saturday morning, and quickly extinguished what appears to have been an electrical fire in the wall of 85 Ledgewood Rd.
The homeowners reported around 11:30 a.m. that they heard popping and saw smoke coming out of some of their lights and their switches, as well as the exterior sconce on the front of the house, Battalion Chief Kevin Munson said.
“Our first arriving unit saw fire coming out of the light sconce on the front of the house and some fire coming out of some of the outlets and some of the switches inside the front wall,” said Munson. Both flames as well as smoke were observed.
“Fortunately everyone was out of the house, and everyone’s safe,” Munson said. “Very quick response from the fire department. We were here within four minutes which kept it from spreading within the house any further.”
Damage was confined to the inner front wall, Munson said. Smoke damage was minimal, and Munson said that firefighters used a positive pressure fan to blow most of the smoke out of the house.
He said the home is structurally sound and can be inhabited pending review of the electrical system by building officials. Firefighters will clean up as much of the water damage as possible.
The fire marshal will determine the official cause as part of the investigation.
