A local man turned himself in to police Thursday on a warrant obtained following a month-long investigation by the West Hartford Police Department’s Community Support Uint (CSU) and Hartford Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit.

According to West Hartford Assistant Chief Larry Terra, the investigation focused on criminal activity that included narcotics trafficking taking place in both West Hartford and Hartford, as well as possession of an illegal firearm.

West Hartford Police have charged Byron Jones, 53, of Cortland Circle in West Hartford with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver and failure to obtain a serial number/engraving. CSU seized more than $100,000 in cash as well as a loaded 9mm “ghost gun” with no serial number, Terra said.

Police said they executed search and seizure warrants at Jones’ residence in West Hartford as well as at a location on Albany Avenue in Hartford.

Hartford Police have charged Jones with possession with intent to sell or dispense narcotics, possession of a controlled substance greater than 1/2 ounce of cannabis, operation of a drug factory, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Jones was being held on a total of $900,000 in surety bonds, but according to online court records has been released from custody and has court dates set for Oct. 18 and Oct. 28 at Hartford Superior Court.
