The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office takes the responsibility of preventing fires very seriously. In this unprecedented time of reduced staffing and even temporary closures at our local businesses, we want to remind every business owner that it’s critical to remain committed to keeping their establishment safe.

There are simple safety measures that, when followed diligently, will not only decrease the risk of fire, they’ll also increase peace of mind.

  • Check that fire alarm systems are enabled and functioning properly
  • Check that fire suppression systems are enabled and functioning properly
  • Have systems tested now as disruption to your business may be minimal
  • Unplug all appliances when not in use
  • Update emergency contact information with the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office
  • Maintain clear doorways and stairwells
  • Ensure that all exits are in good working order
  • Make certain that all fire rated doors remain closed
  • Remove any accumulation of combustibles and trash

These steps may seem obvious, but following through with each of them is what protects property and potentially protects lives by preventing a fire.

In an effort to comply with Executive Orders released by the Governor, we’re currently suspending routine inspection activities. However, we will address any concerns you may have regarding fire safety when you contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 860-561-8320.

Please join us in our mission of fire prevention which keeps our community safe.
