West Hartford Musicians Perform at New York’s Legendary Apollo Theater

Musicians from Northwest Catholic, including several from West Hartford, performed as part of a Jazz Series at the Apollo Theater.

Northwest Catholic’s Jazz Singers performed in the Annual Vocal and Instrumental Jazz Ensemble Recital Series at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City on April 11, 2015. The group was one of only eleven to perform in the event and had to submit video recordings in order to be considered for the performance.

The choir, pictured below, is under the direction of Daniel Avery of West Hartford. The students are Gia Fenton of Wethersfield, Ava Rooney of West Simsbury,Kevin Kearns of Simsbury, David and Daniel Ogbonna of West Hartford, Elizabeth O’Hara of Simsbury and Olivia Fenton of Wethersfield.

The Jazz Singers also had a clinic with Grammy-nominated arranger, composer, trombonist and vocalist Pete McGuinness. The event was sponsored by the Manhattan Concert Productions New York City Jazz Festival.
