West Hartford Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Shots Fired in Center Early Sunday Morning

West Hartford Police said they have arrested the shooter and are continuing to investigate the incident that took place near the Center early Sunday morning.

Police on routine patrol in West Hartford Center early Sunday morning heard a gunshot, and through the investigation conducted by patrol officers and detectives have arrested the shooter and another individual involved in the incident, Lt. Ryan Riley said in an email Tuesday.

According to police, officers heard a single gunshot while on foot patrol around Farmington Avenue and LaSalle Road at approximately 1:44 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024.

The officers located several vehicles leaving the area where the gunshot had been heard, Juda said, and found evidence of gunfire at the scene.

Officers, along with detectives, were able to identify a potential suspect after conducting interviews and collecting evidence, and have arrested Louis Declaybrook, 31, of East Hartford. He has been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal attempt at first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and interfering with an officer.

Declaybrook remains in custody on $250,000 surety bond, and is due in Hartford Superior Court on Wednesday.

Police also arrested Yarisa Mendez, 31, also of East Hartford, Juda said. She has been charged with interfering with an officer.

Mendez was released after posting $10,000 surety bond and is due in Hartford Community Court on Thursday, police said.
