On Oct. 17, 2014, the West Hartford Police Department received an award from the Connecticut Police Chief’s Association (CPCA). The award was for the police department’s participation in the Connecticut Law Enforcement Challenge. The Law Enforcement Challenge is sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The Law Enforcement Challenge highlights the department’s efforts in the field of traffic safety.
Throughout the year the West Hartford Police Department is supported by the CT DOT Highway Safety Office for traffic safety campaigns. The campaigns include DWI enforcement, Click-it-or Ticket, and the recent Distracted Driving – High Visibility Enforcement effort.
The Law Enforcement Challenge also recognizes town wide efforts to make our roads and sidewalks safer for all who use them. These traffic calming efforts are conducted by the West Hartford Department of Public Works and the Traffic Engineering department. Examples of the efforts are traffic calming road construction, sidewalk reconstruction, and high visibility signage.
West Hartford Police Officers are actively patrolling our streets everyday – day and night. Our efforts include enforcement of our traffic laws including speeding, distracted driving, seat belt use, DWI, and all violations that lead to accidents.
The West Hartford Police Department received 2nd place in Connecticut for category 3 which is based on the size of our department. This is the fourth consecutive year that the West Hartford Police Department has received an award for participating in the Law Enforcement Challenge. Other police departments receiving awards in this category were Manchester, Stratford, Fairfield, and New Britain.
