The community will now have the opportunity to provide information to the West Hartford Police Department without needing to provide their own personal information.
Capt. Eric Rocheleau, the department’s public information officer, has announced the establishment of a 24-hour Information Tip Line, as well as an email address, which can be used by the public to contact police directly.
The idea had been the subject of recent discussions in staff meetings, Rocheleau said. “We are always looking to see what we can improve here.”
The discussions were taking place during the same time period as an incident earlier this month involving hundreds of ATVs and other vehicles speeding through town. Police were receiving photos and videos from residents regarding that incident, and wanted to make it easier for the community to provide useful information, either by voicemail or email, even if they don’t want to be contacted.
Information can be provided anonymously by calling 860-570-8969, or by emailing [email protected].
“The resources will be available 24 hours a day and monitored daily,” Rocheleau said in an email. “If a reply is requested a member of the West Hartford Police Department will return the call or email in a timely manner.”
The public should continue to call 911 in the event of an emergency, and should not use the email or phone number for those purposes. Routine matters should continue to be directed to 860-523-5203.
