The West Hartford Police Department detected more than 100 motor vehicle violations during an eight-hour special enforcement effort conducted by the Traffic Division on Wednesday.

Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., police were stationed at six different locations throughout town for the pre-planned enforcement initiative, Assistant Chief Larry Terra said.

The locations were:

  • 1097 Farmington Avenue
  • New Britain Avenue at Mayflower Street
  • Mountain Road at High Farms Road
  • Mountain Road at Treeborough Drive
  • 2651 Albany Avenue
  • 2900 Albany Avenue

A total of 106 motor vehicle violations were detected during the eight-hour enforcement effort, Terra said. He provided the following breakdown:

  • 75 tickets were issued for infractions
  • 3 misdemeanor summons were issued, which will require a court appearnce
  • 28 warnings were issued
  • 1 felony arrest warrant was served, resulting in a full custody arrest

In addition, one vehicle fled from police, Terra said. The vehicle has not yet been located.

“This type of traffic enforcement will continue throughout West Hartford at varying times and locations in the future,” Terra said. He reminded all motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to observe roadway and traffic laws while traveling in West Hartford, for the safety of all roadway users.

Agree with Philip & Robert’s comments above. Appreciate and applaud the special enforcement effort, but to curb traffic violations in town this focused approach to enforcement needs to happen on a daily basis.

    Please do this more often.

I agree with the previous comments, there has been a distinct lack of traffic law enforcement in the town especially with regard to blatant cell phone use, speed and ignoring lights and signs. Is there not enough staff to do this EVERY DAY in town?
