A North Carolina man wanted in connection with an armed robbery in the Eastway Division of Charlotte, NC, was taken into custody by West Hartford Police on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 10 p.m., at his mother’s West Hartford home.
West Hartford Police said they were called to assist the FBI in locating the suspect, Arnold Jerard Thomas Jr., 21. According to police, they provided perimeter support at Thomas’ “mother’s address,” 95 Cambridge St., West Hartford.
According to the incident report, “As the FBI agents spoke to Thomas’ mother, Thomas was seen jumping out of a first floor bathroom window. Thomas was hampered in his escape by the deep snow.” Police said that he was “quickly taken into custody” by West Hartford Police Officers David Michael and Sean Walmsley.
Thomas was transported to the West Hartford Police Department where he was processed as a fugitive from justice and is being held on $1 million bond pending extradition to North Carolina.
Thomas has 57 outstanding warrants in Mecklenburg and Guilford counties in North Carolina, for charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and assaults on law enforcement officers, West Hartford Police said.
Charlotte police had been seeking the public’s help in their search for Thomas in connection with an armed robbery in the Eastway Division, according to Charlotte TV station WFMY. He was considered to be “armed and dangerous.”
That armed robbery, according to a report received from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, took place at a residence. The victim in the incident was hospitalized with serious injury resulting from a gunshot wound.
