West Hartford Police responded to Whitehill Dr. at 11:42 a.m. Friday morning based on a call they received from an elderly resident who said someone with a rifle was at the door.

According to police, when officers arrived at the scene they did not see anyone with a weapon, and neighbors who had been outside told officers that they had not seen anything “unusual.”

After speaking with the complainant, police said they determined that the person was “possibly suffering from a medical condition,” and made a referral to social services.

Hall High School had initially responded to the situation by following the “secure the school” protocol, but lifted the alert as soon as police advised there was not a man with a rifle nearby.
