West Hartford Police successfully ended a standoff with a reportedly suicidal man after stopping the vehicle he was driving on Westfal Street on Friday afternoon.

In an email, Capt. Peter Juda said that at approximately 11:20 a.m. Friday dispatchers received notification that area departments were looking for a suicidal male.

“West Hartford police officers located the male driving a vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Westphal Street in West Hartford,” Juda said.

Police shut the area down to traffic and the man remained barricaded in the stopped car.

Police said the incident remains under active investigation.
