When the burglary alarm went off at Caesar’s Liquor Outlet at 440 New Park Avenue early Sunday morning, West Hartford Police were able to respond immediately and apprehend the suspect who now faces multiple charges.
According to Capt. Michael Perruccio, officers were engaged in surveillance operations in the area due to similar reported incidents, and were nearby when the alarm was activated at Caesar’s Liquor Outlet at 2:36 a.m. on May 3. Police immediately established a perimeter, he said.
The perimeter was already in place as the suspect exited the building, Perruccio said, and although he made a “brief attempt to elude officers,” the suspect was quickly apprehended with the assistance of a West Hartford Police K-9 team.
The suspect, Michael Jankowski, 30, of Hartford, has been charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree larceny, and interfering with police.
He was initially held on $25,000 surety bond pending his arraignment at Hartford Superior Court and according to court records remains in custody on $50,000 court set bond. According to online court records, Jankowski has been previously sentenced for multiple incidents that include burglary, larceny, and weapons charges.
