West Hartford Public Schools Welcome Students Back to Classrooms

At West Hartford’s Webster Hill Elementary School on Wednesday morning, old friends ran up to excitedly greet classmates they hadn’t seen all summer while some of the younger kids – newly-minted kindergartners as well as preschoolers – stayed closer to a parent or caregiver, wearing a timid smiles along with their first-day-of-school outfits.
The morning was a reunion for families as well, some of whom were themselves former classmates – including West Hartford Police Capt. Dan Moffo and West Hartford Fire Department Lt. Ryan Shea who were dropping off their children.
It was a morning of eager anticipation for Anthony Dávila, who took over the role of Webster Hill principal this summer. “I’m excited. Since day one I’ve gotten the strong sense of community from everybody,” Dávila told We-Ha.com.
“The parents are in love with their teachers and the school, the teachers, you know, you can feel the love. They really look at each other as family, so it’s a great experience for me coming in brand new.”

Dávila said was able to meet with the PTO, and had one-on-one meetings with the staff over the summer, and met more families at a sneak peek on Tuesday. He said no major changes are planned as he takes the helm.
“The school is so vibrant, they have such a positive climate and culture that I just want to observe and absorb it and enjoy it,” Dávila said. But he added that if the opportunities are there, he will jump right in to instill new traditions as well.

More than 9,000 students walked through the doors of West Hartford’s Public Schools on Wednesday morning to begin the 2025-2026 academic year.
Superintendent Paul Vicinus greeted families at Webster Hill, and had already visited Conard and the REACH program. The executive team was spread throughout the district, and Vicinus said he would try to visit all 16 schools on the first day if possible.
Vicinus noted that all schools would have an added police presence for the first few days to ensure safety at drop-off and pick-up.

“All went well today,” Assistant Superintendent for Administration Julio Duarte told We-Ha.com regarding the bus transportation. “We appreciate all of the planning and proactive efforts that went into today as we recognize the importance of a smooth start.”
During an interview with We-Ha.com last week, both Vicinus and Duarte provided details on construction projects and other updates related to the 2025-2026 academic year.
Teachers were welcomed back with a Convocation ceremony on Monday.
