West Hartford Resident and Technology Expert to Moderate Town Hall Discussion on Screen Time

Michael Shelby, a West Hartford resident and world-renowned expert in online security and technology addition, will moderate ‘Let’s talk about Screen Time’ on Thursday, Nov. 9.

West Hartford resident Michael Shelby of Shall Be Llc will be moderating a town hall discussion following a short presentation: “Let’s talk about Screen Time” on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Canton High/Middle School Auditorium.

This discussion is a follow-up to an earlier screening and discussion of “Screenagers” in that was shown in Canton in April 2017, and has been shown in other communities throughout the region including in West Hartford.

Due to popular demand, decision was made to modify discussion format to include parents and students and to conduct the discussion “town hall” style in real time, interactive fashion. Also, the time allotted to discussion section of this program has been doubled in order to accommodate the outpouring of questions and comments during April event.

The moderator, Michael Shelby (MA Psychology, MBA, LPT, CEH), is the president and CEO of Shall Be Llc. and a fellow at The Center for Internet and Technology Addiction.

Shelby is recognized as an expert in online security and behavioral issues related to technology addiction. He lectures to public and specialty groups, and has appeared on The Today Show, Fox News, and MSNBC.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • How much time do we spend on our screens? Is it too much?
  • Should we have limits and time away from screens?
  • Are all family members bound by these limits?
  • Is there such a thing as “Screen Etiquette”?
  • What is Healthy? What’s “over the line”?
  • What are the true dangers of unrestricted Internet access?

SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in The Digital Age is the first feature documentary to explore the impact of screen technology on kids and to offer parents proven solutions that work. The documentary reveals stories that depict struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. This movie This movie will not be re-broadcast in its entirety, but the main points from the movie will be presented.

The town hall discussion is free and open to the pubic and will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Canton High School, 76 Simonds Ave., Collinsville, CT.
