Knowing what to do in the event of an emergency, and being prepared to evacuate on short notice, are critically important – and on the minds of many in the local community after seeing the devastation caused throughout the South by Hurricane Helene.

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, West Hartford Fire Department, and West Hartford’s emergency management agencies will be teaming up to a lead a “Build Your Go Bag” workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Noah Webster Library branch, 20 South Main Street. The workshop, which will also include hands-on training, will provide education about “concepts of personal preparedness, what to include in your emergency preparedness go bag, how you can help in an emergency, and what to do after you call 911,” the announcement states.

There is no charge to attend this public training session, and one lucky resident who attends will win a raffle for a complete emergency preparedness go-bag.
