UConn freshman Connie Liu, of West Hartford, CT, a biological sciences major, won a UConn Women Transforming Women scholarship.

Liu, who graduated from Conard High School with highest honors in June 2017, was among nine students honored recently at a reception for the first-ever recipients of the scholarships.

The Women Transforming Women scholarship is awarded to meritorious, first-year students, with a preference for female students.

The scholarship was funded by the new UConn Women and Philanthropy group, which started about a year ago and has already raised enough to give 10 scholarships to female UConn students. The group plans to expand to UConn alumna and friends across the country this year and offer mentoring and support for UConn women.
