Two soccer players and a football player, all members of the Hall High School Class of 2016, formalized their intent to continue their sports careers at the collegiate level during a ceremony with their families, friends, coaches, Principal Dan Zittoun, and West Hartford Athletic Director Betty-Remigino Knapp on Thursday afternoon.
Kyanna Alleyne, co-captain of this year’s girls soccer team, signed a national letter of intent to play soccer for Division I American University. Alleyne, a forward, was All-Conference for three years and also named to the All-Conference Academic team.
Alleyne said she also considered playing at Iona College before choosing American.
Swaby, who was also co-captain of the girls soccer team, signed a national letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Division I Rutgers University. Swaby’s accomplishments include All-Conference, All-Conference Academic, All-State, and All-New England honors. She was also chosen to play in the all-star Senior Bowl in North Carolina.
Swaby plays center defense, and said that she chose Rutgers over other schools because she didn’t want to be too far from home.
John Wells also officially committed to play football at Southern Connecticut State University during Thursday’s ceremony.
Wells was one of the captains of Hall’s football team last fall and is currently one of captains of the basketball team. He earned All-Conference, All-Conference Academic, All-State, and All-Courant honors for football this year.
Wells is a wide receiver and said that is the position he will also play at Southern. He said he considered Oberlin, Bentley, and Pace, but chose Southern because he wanted to be close enough so that his family could see him play.
