Winallan “Win” Columbano has been serving as an interim assistant principal at Hall High School since earlier this year, and on Tuesday West Hartford Superintendent of School Paul Vicinus announced that he has appointed Columbano to the role on a permanent basis.
In a letter emailed to the Hall community on Tuesday, Vicinus noted that Columbano “brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, student support, and community engagement.”
Columbano is a dedicated educator, Vicinus said, and has worked at various levels of public education – including as a teacher, dean of students, and building administrator. Before coming to Hall, he was associate principal at Norwich Free Academy, responsible for leading the Sachem Campus and directing multiple alternative education programs.
“At Hall, Mr. Columbano has already made a strong impact on the Hall community through his work with students and families, leading our Culturally Responsive Instruction team, and streamlining attendance protocols to better support student success,” Vicinus said in his email.
Columbano lives in West Hartford with his wife and three young children. He has a bachelor’s degree fro St. Francis College, where he also played Division I baseball and graduated with highest honors before earning a Master of Science in sports management from Brooklyn College and a 6th Year Certificate in educational leadership from the University of Connecticut.
“He is an active member of the community and a strong advocate for student growth, both in and out of the classroom. His leadership is defined by visibility, compassion, and a belief that all students can achieve great things when given the proper support,” said Vicinus, adding that he is confident Columbano’s “leadership, experience, and student-centered approach will continue to enrich our Hall High School community.”
