The West Hartford Symphony Orchestra (WHSO), under the direction of musical director Richard Chiarappa will open its 15th Anniversary Season with Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the left hand featuring piano soloist Norman Malone.

Malone and his story of triumph over tragedy has been shared nationally on CBS News and the Chicago Tribune. Malone is a 78-year-old retired music teacher who lost the use of his right hand at age 10 during an abusive attack by his father. He went on to learn how to play the piano with only his left hand and enjoyed a very rewarding career as a choral music teacher while perfecting his art of playing piano concertos written by the masters for left hand.

In addition to Ravel, WHSO will feature symphony favorites from the past 15 years including movements from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8, Borodin’s Symphony No. 2, Sibelius’ “Finlandia,” and Stravinsky’s “Berceuse and Finale” from The Firebird. This concert is being underwritten by Arnold and Sandra Chase.
