A West Hartford woman has been charged with DWI after she hit a bicyclist Thursday evening at the intersection of Fern Street and North Main Street in West Hartford.

According to West Hartford Police, Nathan Nokes, 29, of Vancouver, WA, was heading west on Fern Street and planned to turn left (south) onto North Main Street when Cynthia Simspon, 67, of 15 Wells Rd., West Hartford, who was driving north on North Main Street turned right onto Fern Street to head east, drove over the double yellow lines, and struck Nokes on his bike in the westbound lane.

The incident occurred at 6:30 p.m.

Police said that Nokes, who was “wearing the proper reflective clothing,” was flung over the hood of Simspson’s car and fell to the ground.

Nokes sustained only minor injuries, complained of “general soreness,” and refused treatment at the scene according to police. His bicycle sustained heavy damage, police said.

According to police, Simpson remained at the scene. Two blood alcohol level tests indicated levels of .094 and .091, police said. Her vehicle, a 2012 Honda Fit, sustained damage to the front end and hood.

Simpson was charged with DWI and failure to drive right. She was released on a non-surety bond.
