Catch the holiday spirit on Friday, Dec. 13, with the West Hartford Women’s Chorale.
The chorale will perform their Winter Concert, “Holidays in Rhythm,”where you’ll hear traditional holiday music transformed into jazz and other surprising rhythms. The concert held, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hartford, presents traditional pieces such as Franz Joseph Hayden’s “Gloria,” performed in classical treatment, while others are transformed by arrangements in a variety of rhythms including jazz, syncopation, and other rhythmic patterns.
The centerpiece of the program features the “Nidardos Jazz Mass” written and arranged by Bob Chilcott, a contemporary British choral composer and conductor. This piece draws on a variety of jazz styles to present an unusual and innovative setting of the Latin Mass. The concert includes holiday themed spirituals and old favorites like “Jingle Bells” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” performed with a special rhythmic twist.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10. Proceeds are used to help support the chorale’s musical endeavors as well as a scholarship program to promote future musicians.
The West Hartford Women’s Chorale is a non-auditioned, community chorale in which all female singers are welcome. For more information go to www.whwchorale.org.
