Hartford Healthcare 49ers 20 – Sports Authority Colts 14
In the first of two exciting games on Saturday night under the lights @ Hall High School, the 49ers and Colts put on a show that didn’t disappoint the fans that came out to watch. The Colts received the kickoff and were able to march 50 yards in 7 plays down to the 49er 20 yard line. But the Niner’s held their ground and took over on downs. Two plays later Divine Edwards went 80 yards for the game’s first TD. Josiah Rivers punched in the extra point for a 7-0 lead. The Colts mounted their next attack and again got into the 49er red zone, but the defense held strong and had their second stop. Three plays later, in a déjà vu moment Edwards once again jetted downfield for a 75 yard TD. The conversion attempt was stopped and the score was 13-0.
During the remainder of the second quarter the teams battled up and down the field, jockeying for the next score. The Colts saw excellent gains by Namar Gaynor and Emmett Coco. The 49ers had great defensive plays from several players including Scott LaBranch, Matt Schwab, Marcus Ramsey and Nick Urso with an interception. At the close of the half the 49ers were pressuring to score once more, but the Colts defense led by Max Rodman and Dom Bavaro and Chris Dowd with a key interception stopped the drive at the 6 yard line. The score was 13-0 going into the half.
The 49ers received the kick off, and Divine Edwards masterfully picked his way through the Colts’ kicking unit for his third score of the night. With a successful PAT, the Niners were up 20-0 early in the third quarter. The last thing on the Colts’ minds however was going home to warm up in a hot shower. The team stormed back onto the field and mounted their next offensive attack. Going 50 yards with an outstanding 10 play drive, the Colts’ Colum Flaherty found the end zone. The extra point conversion was thwarted however and the score was 20-6. To end the final quarter, the teams volleyed possessions and the Colts were able to drive to the end zone with Flaherty once again finding his way past the goal line. The Colts capped that drive with a 2 point pass conversion from Flaherty to Coco to make the score 20-14. That score remained on the board when the game ended, another great WHYFL match up.
Next week the Colts take on the Giants, and the 49ers and Patriots battle to be the only unbeaten team in the final regular season contest.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Patriots 14 – The Watts Group Giants 0
On a cool Saturday night for football, the Dick’s Sporting Goods Patriots leveraged a solid ground game and tough defense en route to a 14-0 victory over the Watts Group Giants in front of a packed sideline at Hall High School.
The Patriots’ offense was led by a bevy of ball carriers, including Dillon Bent, Robert Parrotta, Wyatt Reid, Logan Murphy, and Tommy LaSpada.
The teams exchanged offensive jabs during the first quarter, with the Giants leveraging sound blocking to open holes for running backs Rowan Sierra, Kevin Tiernan, and Damien Thompson.
The Patriots opened the scoring on a nice offensive drive with a mix of both tough runs and passing plays. Bent connected with Tommy LaSpada for a 20-yard score to push the Patriots out to a 6-0 lead. The conversion attempt failed as linebackers Richie Aponte and Sierra stuffed the run. The teams entered the half with the score 6-0 Patriots.
In the second half, the Giants continued to turn the ground game, and hard runs by Sierra and the elusive running of quarterback Jack Kennedy, but could not punch one into the end zone. Midway through the third quarter, linebacker Dylan Swift forced a fumble, which was recovered by safety Aidan Dorian, and the Patriots extended their lead four plays later as quarterback Jack Brown followed the lead blocking of Joey LaSpada, Christian Maldonado, Ben Brockway, Walker Beverly, and Logan Murphy en route to a one-yard score. Brown connected with Parrotta on the passing conversion, and the lead stood at 14-0.
The Giants would not relent, and launched a furious fourth quarter drive, leveraging the legs of Sierra, Kennedy, Luke Wilson, and Thompsen down the field.
Both teams executed well on both offense and defense, and should be commended for good sportsmanship.
The Patriots received outstanding defensive play from Parrotta (who made several big tackles on key downs), Bent, Luke Duzan (two sacks), Brockway, Beverly, Joey LaSpada, Maldonado, Swift (forced fumble), Aidan Dorian (fumble recovery) Murphy, and newcomers Abraham Dunn and Daniel Chavez.

Sweet Frog (Purple) 24 – Mooyah (Green) 6
The Ravens-Mooyahs rematch began as a defensive struggle as neither team could move the ball. The Ravens struck first on Ben Goldstein’s 60 yard scamper down the right sideline alluding a swarm of flag grabbers. The Ravens offense had a multi-faceted attack in their 24-6 win.
