“Throwback Thursday” (#tbt) has become a popular feature on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites. It’s so much fun to see the images of our friends back in their elementary school days, photos of babies who are now in college, unfortunate fashion choices from the ’80s, and much more.

We-Ha.com takes its own historical look  back at the town with “Thursday Throwback.” We will feature images of people, places, and events in West Hartford, and we’d love to have your feedback.

Last week’s photo of the Yankee Flyer diner was one of those quintessential throwback types of photos. While there are still some diners scattered around the country that look just like this, many of them are either gone or look dramatically different.

Rick Liftig knew immediately what now occupies this space, but he wasn’t saying. He wanted to give others a chance to guess, which they did!

“Looks a bit different today! I think that is now the East-West Grille on New Park Avenue,” commented Connie Reder.

Both Lisa Petersen and Yisraela Yehudit, who added comments on Facebook, also thought it was the East-West Grille on New Park.

You’re all correct, and as Rick commented, “Remarkably the building is still there and it’s still a restaurant (a darn good one, too)!” And it really doesn’t look all that different as you can see from this photo on the East-West Grille website.

Does anyone know where the women in this week’s were? What do you think they are doing?

Please add your comments below about the featured photo, and we will publish the answers along with next Thursday’s image.

Thank you to the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society for providing us with the images. For more information about the organization, visit www.noahwebsterhouse.org.

Is this the Woman’s Exchange gift shop? They used to have many hand made baby gifts.

Yes! The Woman’s Exchange on Farmington Avenue, near the (soon to be ALSO gone) Plimpton’s. I really miss that wonderful store with its hand made items and long history of giving homemakers an outlet for their talents and crafts.

Must be the (Women’s) Exchange- it was a great place to buy a newborn gift. It always felt like a throwback to the olden days of white-gloved tea arties!

Looks to me like the Women’s Exchange store, a not-for-profit fundraising organization located on upper Farmington Ave in the Center. Front row right is “Mary K” Moses who, with her husband Henry, were good friends with my parents, Sarah and Bernie Trafford.
