Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, but early voting for the municipal election to elect members of the Town Council and Board of Education began on Monday, Oct. 20.
This is the second year of early voting in Connecticut, and a large percentage of West Hartford voters took advantage of the option last year, with 17,255 West Hartford residents cast their ballots through early voting for the 2024 presdiential election.
In 2023, Gov. Ned Lamont signed “An Act Implementing Early Voting,” making Connecticut the 47th state in the country to implement early voting. West Hartford’s Town Council approved the use of Town Hall as the sole polling place for early voting, which was also held on a smaller scale for the Presidential Preference Primary in April 2024 and for August 2024 primaries.
While the turnout for a municipal election is typically much lighter than for a presidential election, there was a line of people waiting at Town Hall for early voting to open at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, and according to town officials 200 people who voted by the time the polls closed at 6 p.m., and another 85 had voted by mid-day Tuesday. In comparison, on the first day of early voting in the 2024 presidential election, nearly 1,200 people cast their ballots.

There are several steps to follow for early voting, beginning with a check-in to ensure you are an eligible voter in West Hartford. You will then be provided with a ballot and an envelope. Ballots are completed in the available privacy booths, and voters should then place their ballot in the approved envelope, sign it and seal it.

Sealed ballots are placed in a secure receptacle as instructed by election officials.
At the end of each day, all sealed envelopes containing the ballots are turned over to Town Clerk Leon Davidoff. They are locked up and stored in a fireproof, waterproof location, and remain unopened until Election Day, Nov. 4, when they are turned over to the chief moderator.
Voter rolls are reconciled by officials at the end of each day of early voting, however, indicating who has already voted.

What if I’m not yet registered to vote?
Those not yet registered to vote but who are eligible to do so may register to vote and vote via the Same Day Registration during early voting as well as on Election Day. Same Day Registration takes place in the Town Hall auditorium during the early voting period, and in Town Hall Room 400 on Election Day.
If you are using the Same Day Registration option and your state-issued identification does not have your current address, please note that proper documentation of your correct address must be provided, and include, according to the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s website, a PRINTED “copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or government document that shows your name and address.”
For information about documentation needed for Same Day Registration, see the Registrar of Voters webpage.

What about voting by Absentee Ballot?
Connecticut law allows voters to receive an absentee ballot if they cannot appear at their assigned polling place on Election Day because of active service in the military, absence from the town, illness, religious tenets forbidding secular activity on the day of the election, duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own during all of the hours of voting, or physical disability.
According to the town’s website: “To request an absentee ballot, applications may be submitted immediately and dropped in the Election Drop Boxes located at the main entrance to Town Hall and the Faxon Branch Library or they may be mailed to the Town Clerk’s office. All applications must contain the original signature of the applicant. In order for you to receive your ballot on time, applications should be submitted as soon as possible to avoid receiving a late ballot. All voted ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day.”
