With Chair Dissenting Once Again, Utility Regulators Decline to Reopen July Rate Hike

West Hartford residents, like residents across Connecticut, were shocked by high electricity bills last month.

In a decision released at the close of business on Friday, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority voted 2-1 in declining to reopen July’s electricity rate hike that triggered over 3,000 complaints to the agency, including telephone and email threats that State Police are investigating.

The 2-1 vote was identical to the original that approved the rate hike on April 27, with Vice Chair John Betkoski III and Michael Caron voting to let the rate hike stand, outvoting PURA Chair Marissa Gillett, a Democrat who was appointed by Gov. Ned Lamont.
