Spring: flowers, cute butterflies and ladybirds.

Submitted by Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society

Monday, April 11, 9 a.m. to noon: Make a Chalkboard Pot and Birdhouse

For both boys and girls. Spring has sprung! Grow your own herbs from seeds in clay pots painted in

chalkboard paint. Use chalk to identify what you’ve planted. Paint a pet rock for your garden and make a birdhouse or birdfeeder too!

Monday, April 11, 1 to 4 p.m.: Make a Fabric Wrapped Wreath

Create your own fabric wrapped wreath using all kinds of fabric. Decorate it and hang it on your door, or give to Mom for Mother’s Day!

Tuesday, April 12, 9 a.m. to noon: Hearth Cooking

A child’s favorite. Young cooks will use colonial period recipes and cook over an open hearth the old-fashioned way! (space fills up quickly)

Tuesday, April 12, 1 to 4 p.m.: Roasted Cheese and Apples

Children will roast cheese and toast bread the way the Colonists did. They will also learn how to preserve food such as drying apples for use all year long.

Wednesday, April 13, 9 a.m. to noon: Bath Bombs and Bath Salts

Make your own bath bomb that is fragrant and colorful. To make your bath even more luxurious make a jar of bath salts. Both make awesome Mother’s Day Gifts

Wednesday, April 13, 1 to 4 p.m.: Bloomin Butterflies & Ribbon Braiding

Ribbon braiding is fun and easy. Once your ribbon is braided, attach it to a hair band to wear, or wear as a headband! Next make a butterfly collage using fabric, buttons, and felt. Copy a butterfly from the Butterfly Alphabet Book or copy a real live butterfly from our butterfly garden!

The Museum offers a series of workshops for kids during April school vacation week. On each day, there will be two 3-hour workshops for kids ages 7-12. Pack a Snack!

The program fee is $25 per child, per workshop, and $20 for museum members. Registration is required. Call the Education Department at (860) 521-5362 x 14.
