Hundreds of people turned out Thursday in West Hartford’s Blue Back Square on a clear and warm evening for the second Summer Block Party of the season – a lively celebration that featured music and food as well as family-friendly activities and give-aways.

Isham Road was closed to traffic, and people of all ages listened – or danced – to the lively music of Avenue Groove. There was face-painting for the kids, balloon animals, and interactive art experiences including sidewalk chalk drawing and painting.

RiseUP for Arts sponsored an art box assembly, where decorated boxes of paints and other art supplies were assembled for patients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The art experiences took place in the substance-free zone, where students involved in PHACCT – one of the programs of the West Hartford Prevention Council and Prevention Partnership – also shared information about their other initiatives.
