West Hartford’s annual Chocolate Café, presented by I Giovani Solisti and the West Hartford Camerata, drew nearly sold-out audiences to Town Hall for two shows on Saturday, Feb. 21. The third and final performance scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to impending weather from the blizzard.
A beloved tradition of Chocolate Café is that each audience member receives a slice of homemade cake with their ticket. In preparation for three nearly sold-out concerts, the student musicians and their families baked more than 75 cakes.
With the Sunday performance canceled, many cakes remained. In the spirit of community, families donated more than 15 cakes to local first responders.
Cakes were donated to West Hartford Fire Station #2 where a Camerata member participates in ride-alongs for her EMT class, as well as to the West Hartford Police Department, where Officer Matt Zobel, father of a Solisti member, accepted the donation on behalf of officers, dispatchers, and command staff.
