The CIAC has honored Hall senior and football captain Solomon Levy with the 6th Student Community Champion Award. This award is sponsored by IKEA and the goal is to recognize outstanding Connecticut High School students who demonstrate a strong passion and commitment to giving back, supporting the communities around them, and leading by example.

Being a captain of any sport means that you are setting the example for younger players and the future of the team. With a leadership role like this it is important to use the opportunity to create meaningful change.

Last football season, Levy could be credited with the organization of a volunteer event, where players created care packages for men in need with Dignity Grows in West Hartford. Before entering the 2025 season, he organized a car wash where all proceeds went to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Levy commented on the value of his Dignity Grows project. “The Hall football team is a cornerstone of the West Hartford and Hall community. We feel it’s important to give back to the greater Hartford community that supports us. Being part of the team is not just on the field, it’s off the field as well. It’s a part of our philosophy to not just be great football players, but great people as well!”

By taking action to make a positive impact off the field, Levy proves that he understands being a captain is more than being a leader but a chance to uplift his teammates and instill the value of community service in not just the Hall football program but throughout West Hartford.

In an interview with We-Ha.com, he reflected on why he made the decision to take initiative on these projects. “My teammates and I put so much hard work and dedication into the Hall football program. Our coaches taught us the importance of character off the field as well, so it was important to me that we were also dedicated to our community and that we worked hard to help others as best we can.”

These events helped so many people struggling in the West Hartford  area, and Levy hopes to inspire other teams and programs to give back like Hall football has.
