Voices of Hope invites the public to attend the 9th Annual Greater Hartford International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorating the January 1945 Liberation of Auschwitz, to be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at The Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Dr., West Hartford, CT. The program will begin at noon.
The United Nations General Assembly designated Jan. 27 – the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this annual day of commemoration, the U.N. urges every member state to honor the victims of the Nazi era and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.
The Jan. 27 program will include a kosher brunch, Holocaust survivor recognition ceremony, and the presentation of the 2019 Chesed Award to the following Holocaust Survivors for their work in the community: Edith Denes, Betty Deutsch, Ralph Parker, and Ruth Weiner. The award is bestowed on individuals who demonstrate exemplary “acts of loving kindness.” Those who assisted with the passing of the CT Holocaust and Genocide legislation will also be honored.
The cost to attend is $18 in advance and $20 at the door for the program and brunch. The program is free for students and Holocaust survivors.
Registration is available here via impact flow.
