Conard Girls Swimming and Diving Improves to 3-0

In their third meet of the season, the Conard girls swimming and diving team beat Rocky Hill in a meet Wednesday at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford.

Conard’s Girls Swimming and Diving team easily handled Rocky Hill High School on Wednesday afternoon, winning 11 of 12 events and sweeping 10 for a final score of 88-77.

The Red Wolves kicked off the meet with a 1-2 finish in the Medley Relay, with the combination of Aspen Rosner, Ella Switzer, Liv Sherry, and Claire Dombrofski taking first, and Cece Peck, Maddie Mancini, Deni Peneva, and Claire Haverly locking up second place.

Conard then went on to sweep the next three events, with Jane Harhay, Sophia Pincince, and Emma O’Beirne in the 200 Freestyle, Rachel Mathews, Meghan Jo, and Rosie Alonzo in the 200 Individual Medley, and Rosner, Dombrofski, and Haverly in the 50 Freestyle.

Ali Colburn and Rachel Giroux combined for a 1-2 finish in diving, putting the Red Wolves up 62-15 after the break for diving.

Conard then went on to sweep the next four events, with Jo, Mathews, and Switzer in the 100 Butterfly, J. Harhay, Rosner, and Dombrofski in the 100 Freestyle, and Sherry, Pincince, and O’Beirne in the 500 Freestyle. The 200 Freestyle Relay saw Dombrofski, J. Harhay, Rosner, and Sherry taking first and Jo, Mathews, CC Durham, and Pincince taking second.

While Conard didn’t sweep the 100 Backstroke, they did outscore Rocky Hill 9-7 with Peck, Gracie Lowney, and Peneva combining for a 2-3-4 finish that gave the Red Wolves the upper hand in the event.

The Red Wolves went on to sweep the last two events, with Switzer, Lyla Harhay, and Alonzo securing the top spots for Conard, and the 400 Freestyle Relay was won by an all freshmen team of Haverly, Peck, Alonzo, and L. Harhay, while O’Beirne, Peneva, Morgan Robinson, and Kayla Lowney secured the second place spot.

Conard moves into their CCC West schedule on Monday, Oct. 3, at home vs. Berlin High School.
